Welcome to the Year 4 class page!
On Wednesday, Year 4 had the pleasure of taking part in an exciting day where we learnt all about the Romans. Joseph - from Ancient Visitor - came in to teach the children all about the Romans through a variety of fun-filled, engaging and immersive activities. We tried on Roman armour and explored a range of Roman artefacts to understand how soldiers and citizens lived. These artefacts included Roman coins - we had a great discussion about how the coins differ from the ones we use today, a toilet brush, a very odd sponge and a wax block which they used to write on. We also designed our own Roman village, thinking carefully about buildings and layout and even learnt to speak some Latin words and phrases. The children played traditional Roman games such as knuckles and took part in their own Roman battle to experience how the army trained. We also acted out Roman stories, which helped us remember key events and deepen our understanding in a fun and memorable way.
I have added photos from the day to our class gallery. If you want to have a browse, you can find them further down this page. :)

Activity 1: Three reads!
Reading books will come home each day. A library book will come home at the end of each week. Complete your 3 x 15-minute reads. Comment in your reading record and ask an adult to sign it off. Return it to school every day. Remember, 3 reads = a TrackIt point and you will receive another TrackIt point for any additional reads you complete! During the school day, if you read for 15 minutes, you can write this down in your reading record and it will count as one of your 3 reads!
Activity 2:
Keep logging onto TTRockstars and practising your times tables! We will all become times table wizards in no time! By the end of Year 4, children should know all the times tables (1-12) up to 12x the number. Times tables are incredibly important for us to master!
This week, make sure you complete your 15 minute Garage session.
Also, as an extra, try and do at least 1 Soundcheck session a week. This will help you practise your speed of recalling times table facts ready for our Multiplication Tables Check in the Summer!
Activity 3: Spellings.
Our spelling focus is to spell challenge words.
Stage 4, List 20:

Learn these spellings for our Friday spelling test by completing your homework (which is set on a Thursday to be completed and handed in by the following Tuesday).
You can use the Spelling Shed link below to practise your spellings. Just type in the stage and list number.
Play a game to practise your spellings....
