  • KS2 Author visit

    Mon 11 Mar 2024

Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 were thrilled to welcome the fantastic author and illustrator Chris Mould to Lawns Park. Chris has been involved in writing and illustrating some extremely well-known books over his 30-year career, and he spent some time talking with the children about his illustrated version of 'The Iron Man' which our children read in LKS2. Chris discussed his career from childhood to present day and emphasised the challenges he went through at school as a little boy who found learning difficult. Fast-forward 40 years and Chris is the creator of numerous books and has worked on projects which have gone on to be made into movies such as, 'A Boy called Christmas.' All the while Chris is telling his story he is also leading a draw-along for the children of his Iron Man artwork so that all children had a souvenir of his visit. It was a fantastic opportunity for the children to be inspired by the brilliance of a famous author/illustrator and Chris really enjoyed his time with our children.

  • World Book Day!

    Thu 07 Mar 2024

Lawns Park celebrated World Book day with an exciting day of costumes, activities and - most importantly - books! The children and staff came to school in a whole variety of wacky and wonderful outfits which demonstrated come of their favourite characters as well as an adjective describing that character. We had a whole-school assembly to show off our outfits and then went back to classrooms where we took part in lots of different reading and book related activities. We also enjoyed some D.E.A.R time (Drop Everything And Read) throughout the day whenever the school bell rang. We had a fantastic day and really enjoyed hearing and talking all about our favourite books.

  • KS1 Author Visit

    Tue 05 Mar 2024

As part of our celebration of World Book Day we invited superstar author and illustrator Bethan Woollvin to Lawns Park to meet out children in Years 1 and 2. Bethan came in to talk about her books and what life is like for her being an author. She gave the children a sneak peak behind the scenes of her exciting work and then proceeded to teach the children all of the secrets of her wonderful illustrations. The children then had the opportunity to try their hand at their own illustrations which they thoroughly enjoyed. It was an inspirational visit and one which will no doubt inspire the children with their writing going forward.

  • Secret Garden Performance

    Thu 29 Feb 2024

Lawns Park were thrilled to welcome the magnificent M&M Theatrical Production Ltd to stage their version of the Frances Hodgson Burnett classic text 'The Secret Garden' in our school hall. Children from Foundation Stage all the way up to Year 6 were treated to the most magnificent spectacle of live theatre as a cast of four brought the whole story to life while conducting all of the lighting, scenery, props, music and special effects all by themselves! Our children were mesmerised by the polished performance which included a good dose of music and humour as well as fabulous acting and a heart-wrenching storyline. It was truly inspirational to watch as our children sang their hearts out at some points and then sat in rapt silence on other occasions as the story unfolded. We are hugely grateful to M&M Theatrical Production Ltd as it was a very late booking but it proved to be an absolute hit with all the children and adults in the audience.

  • Football Competition

    Tue 27 Feb 2024

Well done to our Year 3 and 4 footballers who took part in a five-a-side football tournament at Goals Leeds. The tournament took place over the course of a day and meant that the squad of 8 had the opportunity to play plenty of games and rotate their positions. The squad experienced a selection of victories, draws and defeats during the day but enjoyed the experience and came away with a smile on their faces. Well done to all the children who represented Lawns Park so impressively.

  • Light, Camels, Action!

    Thu 14 Dec 2023

Years 1 and 2 staged a wonderful musical nativity story this week, going by the title, 'Lights, Camels, Action!' It was a hugely entertaining collection of songs and dances which were compered by some nice (and some not so nice!) judges. The children and adults in years 1 and 2 have worked extremely hard to put the show together under some very challenging circumstances but everyone pulled together because, as we all know, the show must go on! Well done to everyone involved, we hope you enjoy the pictures.

  • Santa and his reindeer come to Lawns Park!

    Fri 08 Dec 2023

Our parent teacher association, the 'Friends of Lawns Park', pulled off one of the most spectacular events in recent memory today by managing to get both Santa AND his reindeer to visit Lawns Park for the Christmas Fair! The man in the red suit met with children in our magically transformed outdoor reading cabin whilst just next door his reindeer grazed happily for our families to watch. And on top of that, right outside Santa's grotto was an enormous winter wonderland snowglobe which the children were able to bounce around on. There were also stalls of stocking fillers and tasty treats as well as some delicious refreshments. It was an absolutely fantastic event and we owe a huge debt of gratitude to the Friends of Lawns Park for all their exceptional hard work - and somehow managing to get hold of Santa and his reindeer at such a busy time of year. Thank you!
