  • Kindness Advent Calendar

    Sat 02 Dec 2023

This year, Lawns Park Primary School are taking part in a kindness advent calendar. Each day, during assembly, the new advent day is revealed and we discuss exactly what we can do to enrich our school, community and home environments with little acts of kindness. The children have really been taking on board the lessons of the day. In the photos you will see two girls from Year 5 who created a tally chart showing how many times they had said thank you on that day. In another photo, Marci has drawn a picture showing the moment when she offered for a different child to go infront of her in a queue. There have been hundreds of examples of small acts of kindness around school and it is lovely to hear them each and every day. Well done Lawns Park!

  • Northern Dreaming Visit

    Fri 01 Dec 2023

Years 2, 1 and Foundation Stage were treated to a visiting performance of Northern Dreaming Storytime this afternoon. The one-woman show is based on a book and contains a wealth of fantastic characters and weird and wonderful locations. Our children were captivated by the actress and storyline which was brought to life through an enthusiastic performance. Who knew we would ever manage to get an actual elephant in the school hall! We were very grateful for the opportunity to take part in the touring production.

  • Lawns Park Choir open at Farnley CC

    Sat 25 Nov 2023

The Lawns Park performing arts club opened the Farnley Cricket Club Christmas Market on Saturday 26/11/23. Performing a range of Christmas hits both old and new, the after-school club - which contains over 40 pupils - entertained a packed audience. Mrs Markham's singers brought the festive spirit on a sunny afternoon and they were even joined by an unexpected guest! Presumably having heard the majestic singing from somewhere up on his snow-capped mountain, none other than THE GRINCH dropped in and even joined in the signing and conducted the choir at one stage. It was a fabulous afternoon and a lovely opportunity for our children to spread joy in their community. Well done Lawns Park!

  • Andy Seed visits Lawns Park

    Tue 21 Nov 2023

Years 5 and 6 enjoyed a visit from the award-winning author Andy Seed today who dropped in to talk all about life being an author and how editing can be used to improve the quality of your written work. Andy was exceptionally inspiring in his description of just how amazing being a writer can be - particularly as you get to be the boss and have a tea and biscuit break whenever you fancy! The children asked some brilliant questions and loved finding out about some of history's biggest villains including Vlad the Impaler, Ivan the Terrible, Guy Fawkes and many more. It was clear to see that their are some budding authors of the future amongst our Lawns Park learners!

  • Children in Need

    Fri 17 Nov 2023

Well done and thank you to everyone who donated their spare change toward Children in Need this week. The children have been in friendly competition with each other to see how many Pudsey Bear faces they could cover with coins. F2 were the eventual winners, managing to cover eight whole faces in total, and as a school we raised £179.54. We were joined in our daily assembly by Greggs Foundation mascot 'Hope' who was out and about collecting donations. She dropped in to say hello and cheer us on with out fundraising. Thank you once again to everyone who helped with their donations.

  • Anti-bullying odd-socks

    Mon 13 Nov 2023

This week is anti-bullying week. We have been learning about different types of bullying and how to spot bullying when it is happening to us or to somebody else. Our assemblies this week have been focussed on what to do when we think that bullying is happening, both in the real world or virtually. We kicked off anti-bullying week by wearing odd socks to support the national campaign - our mantra for the week has been:

'Everyone is different, everyone is equal.'

  • Lawns Park will remember

    Mon 13 Nov 2023

Lawns Park Primary School created a poppy wreath which was placed at the cenotaph in Farnley as a mark of respect for remembrance Sunday. All 235 children in school created their own personal poppy and these were then collected together in one wreath to commemorate the occasion. Some Lawns Park children then placed the wreath at the cenotaph on remembrance Sunday alongside our school governor and the Friends of Lawns Park.

  • Glow Disco

    Thu 09 Nov 2023

The Friends of Lawns Park organised a fantastic 'glow disco' this week. Children from across the whole school attended this fantastic event which was hugely successful. Dancing, singing, party games and hot-dogs were the order of the night and all enjoyed in the glow of a beautifully decorated hall. We are hugely grateful to the Friends of Lawns Park for organising such a fabulous event!

  • Recognition Awards

    Fri 27 Oct 2023

Congratulations to all of our recognition award winners for Autumn 1. You have all demonstrated the attitude and learning skills which have made your teaching adults very proud. It was a particularly spooky recognition assembly because it also happened to tie in with our Halloween dress-up day. These little monsters have really been frighteningly brilliant so far this year!

  • School Council

    Mon 02 Oct 2023

Congratulations to all of our new school council team. The children have been writing letters applying for different roles in the council and were voted for by their peers. Mr Chapman then worked with the new team and selected a chair, vice-chair and office managers based on the skills they had demonstrated in our initial meetings. The school council have three key priorities to begin with:

    1. Give every child in school a voice.

    2. Make changes which improve the school for everyone.

    3. Be role-models at all time.

We have no doubt that the new team will have a significant impact on life at Lawns Park over the coming year.
