  • Drug, Alcohol and Tobacco Education at Lawns Park Primary School

    Fri 21 Feb 2020
This half term the children will cover aspects of drug, alcohol and tobacco education in their weekly PSHE lessons. In year one pupils will explore what we can safely put into our bodies. Year two look at medicines, year three find out about tobacco as a drug and year four explore making good choices. In year five the pupils look into different influences and in year six we focus on how to weigh up risk. During the term our colleagues from the charity DSide will be visiting again and running workshops in this area with each class. This is an important aspect of our PSHE curriculum and the knowledge they gain helps them to make good choices to keep themselves safe and healthy. If you want to know more about the lesson content please contact Miss Pashley through the school office.

  • NSPCC Numberday 2020

    Fri 07 Feb 2020

Next Friday is another fundraiser for the NSPCC at Lawns Park. We are participating in National number day. We are asking that all pupils come to school in sports kit with a number attached. Each class has a different set of numbers and all we suggest you do is  write the number on some paper and attach it to your child's clothing. During the day the classes in KS2 will be competing in a battle of the classes multiplication challenge. In KS1 the challenge will be based on number facts to 10 and 20. We suggest that the children in Foundation Stage and KeyStage One, choose and wear a number, from 0 to 20. In Y3  the children choose and wear a number from the x8 multiplication table and in Y4,Y5, Y6 a number from the X7 multiplication table.

We will have buckets in each class for voluntary contributions to the NSPCC.

    Thu 06 Feb 2020

Today Dside Dave ran a workshop today in each class on online safety. He ended the day with a parent workshop. Here are some of his top tips so that your family can enjoy the best of the digital world safely and confidently.

    • Visit an O2 shop. In partnership with the NSPCC they will set any mobile phone up for you safely at no charge.
    • Play online with your child and talk about what they are playing to assess if they are staying safe.
    • No technology in bedrooms at night
    • Have a charging point in a central point.
    • Know your child's password - let them know you know it and that you will check their history.
    • Consider an app to turn the  technology on and off at set times
    • Search Utube for a tutorial on how to keep your child safe on Utube.
    • When your child google searches add 'for kids at the end'
    • Access websites to keep up to date with most commonly used apps such as net-aware.org.uk
